We are only halfway through 2018 and already it has been a wonderful year for Breast Cancer Comfort! One of the most exciting events for us was this year’s Uplifting Event in April!
Since 2010, the physicians of New York Breast Reconstruction Associates/Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, PC in Great Neck, NY, have hosted the Uplifting Event annually. As part of their Patient Empowerment Program, the event strives to celebrate and uplift their patients. Each year hundreds of attendees (breast cancer survivors, breast cancer surgeons, oncologists, and others) come together and fill Long Island’s Chateau Briand catering venue. At this year’s Uplifting Event, Breast Cancer Comfort was honored to be one of two breast cancer foundations to receive monies raised during the fundraising component of the event.
Debi and Andy enjoyed a wonderful evening complete with live music, a delicious dinner, and a fashion show put on by a group of incredible breast cancer survivors. It was quickly evident that the event could not have a more perfect name — the energy was positive, inspiring and, of course, uplifting!
We are so touched to have the support of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Patient Empowerment Program and to be included in this special event. We cannot thank Aesthetic Plastic Surgery enough for their generous donation to Breast Cancer Comfort and for everything that they do for women undergoing mastectomies and breast reconstructions.
Patient Empowerment Program –
NYBRA’s Patient Empowerment Program is designed to address the emotional needs of patients diagnosed with breast cancer or the BRCA genetic mutation and who are facing mastectomy and breast reconstruction. This unique and comprehensive program offers patients and their families the support that is critical to coping with the treatments and adjustments that are part of the breast reconstruction process.
The program was founded by director Mollie Sugarman, who boasts 40+ years of experience developing programs that promote wellness, health education, and support for individuals, couples, and families facing life challenges. Mollie believes that a nurturing environment is vital to dealing with the myriad of emotions one experiences when facing a cancer diagnosis and traveling the journey thereafter.
